Despotism Today (2005)

This movie is based off of an Encyclopedia Britanica Films movie called "Despotism." The movie was originally produced after World War 2 to promote social awareness about power in society and how the Nazi's came to power. The short film I've created takes the issues brought up in the original version, and compares them to their current status in American society since then. This movie is intended to provoke thought about some issues in society today, and is not intended to be taken too literally.

Subject: Irrelevant mash-up
The creator has taken the Despotism film and added irrelevant clips for examples that ultimatley fail to add any coherence to the point of the initial film. A interview from Malcom X is used for the Respect category, Vietnam village burning for non-consent of the people, an edited State of the Union address from Bush in the puppet Congress spot, and the Duck and Cover film for the propoganda section all lead no where interms of proving a point. Despotism today should include clips that are relevant today, not 50 years ago. I think much better examples could have been used, especially with what the current regime is doing right now.

Subject: Garbage
This person has taken a well thought out and educational movie and turned it into a confusing pile of unrelated images that's hard to follow, out of context and very rarely relevant. Badly put together, chopped into incomprehensible chunks, poorly thought out and obviously spittle-flecked with bile and hatred toward the right when it went through the editing process. See the original, it's good, and allows you to draw your own conclusions.

And no, I'm not a conservative bashing this because it opposes my viewpoint, I'm a libertarian and just like things equal and fair. This is neither.

Subject: Despotism Is Ripe for Re-Mixing
Hey there author of "Despotism Today" from the author of "Despotism 2005." Great minds think alike! I too have re-mixed the very interesting film "Despotism." Please come by http://www.hoppervideo.net to check out my version.
